Here is another one of my digital images which is a combination of scanned images and digital illustration. I decided to work with layers to convey the idea of adding, building and adding layers to our identity.
Digital Prints
I incorporated photography with the fragmented pieces use in my figures to create images that represent the construction of identity.
go big or go home
Here are a few of the prints I did during the workshop with Morgan Doyle. Not like my usual stuff but a change for the better I think!
monoprints
Printmaking with Morgan Doyle
I was delighted to have been chosen to do the workshop with Morgan Doyle in March. I was definitely one of the most beneficial things I have been part of, I learnt so much and will take on board everything I learnt that week. I was always so particular, everything had to be perfect and I rarely ever strayed any larger than an A4 page but I was given that push I needed. My work has now transformed and become more gestural and figurative which I am really liking.
Break it Down
Most of my work now is stemming from my series of monoprints and the abstract figures are becoming a recurrent feature throughout my work. Here are a few small monoprints I made.
They are all the same plate, the second and third are ghost prints and represent the deconstruction of identity.
Slugs Snails and Puppy Dog Tails
I did a series of monoprints to represent the concept of identity construction, they are abstract figures which I individually sewed onto, the thread for me represented the idea of building or adding to identity. The monoprints were created on found fabric because I like the way the material absorbed the ink like the way we absorb everything around us to form our identity.
Raiding Grannys Photo Albums
Memories we have of people and places we have experienced in our lives play an important role in shaping who we are. I asked my granny and grandad to pick out a few of their favourite photos or ones which have vivid memories for them and I created some silk screen prints of these.
I have quotes to go with these images which I hope to incorporate later into the prints maybe using embroidery or silkscreen in a different colour over them. I decided to use fabric as my printing material again to play on the idea of comfort or security. These are a few of the prints.

I began to look at how our early lives and identify how childhood experiences reflect and influence a persons identity. Teddy bears and stuffed toys seem to be an important and reoccurring element when discussing or thinking about childhood for myself and also for others. Teddy bears and dolls are associated with feelings of comfort and security in most childhood memories and we retain this mental association throughout our adult lives. I began a sketchbook to convey this concept where I drew line drawings of children holding teddy’s, stuffed animals and blankets which were embroidered onto the page. On the back of the pages my terrible sewing skills added to the concept as over time these objects and also the memories of these objects become frayed and tattered.
reuse reuse reuse
So I had taken some photos on a film camera which I posted before but I didn't put them to much use so I decided to incorporate them into this project. The photos all included people with body art and body modifications like tattoos and piercings which has a lot to do with identity and a way of self-expression.
I chose this photo because I thought the tattoo was interesting and I liked the atmosphere portrayed in the photo. The face is covered questioning who the person is the only giveaway to the persons identity being the tattoo which is a means of self expression.
Identity Construction
For the self directed project I decided to explore the idea of identity and identity construction. The shaping, texture and colours of our personalities through time and growth. I am looking at how we are constantly building and adding to our identity throughout our lives.
Digital Media
I am really enjoying drawing images into my Exquisite Sketchbook so I decided I would like to incorporate it into my digital media brief along with one of my collage pieces. I scanned in different combinations from the sketchbook until I decided on a few I thought would work, they have quite a magical, mysterious and quirky elements.
The first image is a digital illustration I created on photoshop, the rest were my drawings which I edited on photoshop by layering images, changing colours and opacity to create these imaginative pieces which show the creativity of combining different minds and images.

Colour and Collage
I decided to create some more exquisite corpse images this time incorporating collage into the images and adding some colour which is something that always seems to be lacking in my work. Although I didn't go crazy with all the colours because I am still pretty hesitant about straying away from all the pastel and neutural tones, I really like how they turned out!
Exquisite Sketchbook
I decided to create an exquisite corpse sketchbook where all the pages can flip in three ways in different combinations to create wacky images.
Photography Project
For this project we were asked to take a series of photos using a black and white film. They had to connect or relate to each other somehow whether it was visually or conceptually. I decided to take my photos of body art and body modifications, being in an art college I didn't have to go far to find some great photo opportunities. I really enjoyed this brief especially working in the dark room and processing the photos
Here is how they turned out (the quality isn't great here because I took these photos with my phone but I will scan them in properly when I get the chance)
These are some of the photographs:
